Lyrics from the CD

"Rhythm of Life"

Rhythm of Life1

Ain’t gonna wait ‘til I lose some weight

Not gonna worry if I’m out of shape

Tired of lookin’ the mirror, don’t like what I see

Tired of basin’ my looks from the covers of magazines

Gonna have a good time, Gonna be a good day

Things are gonna go right, things are moving my way

Gonna take some time off, Gonna treat myself right

Gonna get in time with the rhythm of life

Ain’t gonna wait for my bills to be paid

Not gonna worry if they’re a little bit late

Tired of racin’ around robbin’ Peter for Paul

Tired of basing my moods on whether my pockets are full

Gonna have a good time, Gonna be a good day

Things are gonna go right, things are moving my way

Gonna take some time off, Gonna treat myself right

Gonna get in time with the rhythm of life

Been going in circles, meetin’ ourselves comin’ both ways

No sense of direction but honey that’s ‘bout to change…

Gonna have a good time, Gonna be a good day

Things are gonna go right, things are moving my way

Gonna take some time off, Gonna treat myself right

Gonna get in time with the rhythm of life

Gonna get in time with the rhythm of life

Chase Away The Blues

Sometimes a woman feels so alone

like someone’s took her heart out and laid it on a stone

and she’s not sure what to do to chase away the blues

That’s how I was baby just the other night

When you came in I knew things would be alright

‘Cause you know just what to do to chase away the blues

Well a casual conversation and the touch of tender hands

can do more to lift the spirit than we’ll ever understand

and the meeting of minds and the soothing of souls

is what the doctor ordered, honey, how did you know

I needed someone to talk to, to chase away the blues

You listened while I told you things on my heart

While I let go of mem’ries, you healed all the scars

I told you every secret I had locked inside

You said, "I don’t care what you’ve done, it doesn’t change my mind

I’m still in love with you, so chase away the blues"

Well a casual conversation and the touch of tender hands

can do more to lift the spirit than we’ll ever understand

and the meeting of minds and the soothing of souls

is what the doctor ordered, honey, how did you know

I needed someone to talk to, to chase away the blues

I needed someone to talk to, to chase away the blues

I needed someone and it was you, to chase away the blues

I’d Like To Hear From You

Sittin’ on the front porch strummin’ my guitar

thinkin’ ‘bout relationships, wonderin’ where you are

There was a time that we were close, but now we seem so far

Your memory stays with me right in my heart

So I think I’ll wish upon a star

I think I’ll ask the man on the moon

I think I’ll send the angels out

Cause I’d like to hear from you

You saw a strength inside of me I couldn’t see myself

You saw me as a spirit free, while still locked in my shell

You came along just like a song and helped me dream again

When those dreams took me away you took it on the chin

So I think I’ll wish upon a star

I think I’ll ask the man on the moon

I think I’ll send the angels out

Cause I’d like to hear from you

Wouldn’t change my life today

but I didn’t get here alone

Angels watching over me, sent people like you along

So I think I’ll wish upon a star

I think I’ll ask the man on the moon

I think I’ll send the angels out

Cause I’d like to hear from you

I’d like to hear from you, it’s been awhile

and I’d like to hear from you

I Found Myself In You

Sharing the truth, no need to lie

Honest with each other, no emotions to disguise

I see the purest heart when I look into your eyes

Our love burns like a shooting star that brightens up the night

Making love is an expression of the union of our lives

Where heartbeats dance in rhythm,

while our bodies dance in light

Though we each have our freedom, we’ve chosen to be true

Other lovers we don’t need ‘em,

‘cause I found myself in you

Softly you speak "Come to me now

the cares of this world, it’s time to lay ‘em down"

It’s just you and me, no one else is around

Let’s touch the heights of heaven, with the love that we have found

Making love is an expression of the union of our lives

Where heartbeats dance in rhythm,

while our bodies dance in light

Though we each have our freedom, we’ve chosen to be true

Other lovers we don’t need ‘em,

‘cause I found myself in you

Turning the page on days gone by

Through all the lessons we’ve learned how to keep love alive

We talk with our hearts, we share with our eyes

We move with our soul, we let our spirits rise…

Making love is an expression of the union of our lives

Where heartbeats dance in rhythm,

while our bodies dance in light

Though we each have our freedom, we’ve chosen to be true

Other lovers we don’t need ‘em,

‘cause I found myself in you

Aint’ Standin’ In No Pasture

 (But I Sure Smell Bull)

Told you what my name was, you still called me babe

Said we’d met before, that was your second mistake

Told me not to call a cab, be glad to take me home

Caught the scent when you walked in, it wasn’t your cologne

We ain’t standin’ in no pasture, but I sure smell bull

Think you got it mastered, I’m ‘bout to change the rules

I was raised in the country, but wasn’t raised no fool

We ain’t standin’ in no pasture, but I sure smell bull

Thought you’d walk right over here and sweep me off my feet

Smooth words and magic words, my heart would skip a beat

You got the game down, but you ain’t ‘bout to score

Maybe you didn’t catch my drift, but honey I caught yours

We ain’t standin’ in no pasture, but I sure smell bull

Think you got it mastered, I’m ‘bout to change the rules

I was raised in the country, but wasn’t raised no fool

We ain’t standin’ in no pasture, but I sure smell bull

It may sound like the real thing, it may look like a rose

The only way to know for sure, is follow your nose…

We ain’t standin’ in no pasture, but I sure smell bull

Think you got it mastered, I’m ‘bout to change the rules

I was raised in the country, but wasn’t raised no fool

We ain’t standin’ in no pasture, but I sure smell bull

Ears To Hear

Left the car at Trader’s Point and hiked into the wild

Kept on ‘til the sunset then stopped to build a fire

This was our first adventure out in the great unknown

a primitive vacation, my wife and I alone

Watched the moonlight slowly pass ‘cross the starry sky

Listened to the sounds of all the creatures of the night

Just around midnight we heard footsteps drawing near

Then beyond the fire’s glow an Indian man appeared, he said:

Have you heard the bluebird and knew the words it sang

Has an eagle ever crossed the sky spelling out your name?

Has light’ning flashed in the night and brought a message clear

Do you believe that nature speaks to those with ears to hear?

Said he was a Cherokee, the watchman of his tribe

A hawk had brought a message there were tenderfoots nearby

If we liked, he’d share some wisdom from the red-man’s ways

He’d tell us how to understand the sounds that nature makes

Have you heard the bluebird and knew the words it sang

Has an eagle ever crossed the sky spelling out your name?

Has light’ning flashed in the night and brought a message clear

Do you believe that nature speaks to those with ears to hear?

Raised his eyes toward heaven as the night owl called

Then the whisper of the wind shared the things it saw

It’s true we’re one big fam’ly all creatures great and small

There’s a bond of unity that joins us one and all

I’ve heard the bluebird and knew the words it sang

I’ve seen an eagle cross the sky spelling out my name

Light’ning’s flashed in the night and brought a message clear

I believe nature speaks to those with ears to hear

Yes I believe nature speaks… to those with ears to hear

That’s Not What I’m Looking For

Jogging in the park a man told me that I looked tired

Then he asked me over for a little R & R

I looked at him and said, I’m very happ’ly wed

and that’s not what I’m looking for

Well at the spa the other day a woman came my way

and asked me how much time I had to spare

I told her very kind, that wasn’t what I had in mind

no, that’s not what I’m looking for

That’s not what I’m looking for

I’ve got someone who’s the greatest in the world

So I beg your pardon if you thought I wanted more

But that’s not what I’m looking for

Happiness is living life with the one who knows you best

I wouldn’t trade the one I love for any of the rest

Cause that’s not what I’m looking for

I’ve got someone who’s the greatest in the world

So I beg your pardon if you thought I wanted more

But that’s not what I’m looking for

That’s not what I’m looking for

I’ve got someone who’s the greatest in the world

So I beg your pardon if you thought I wanted more

But that’s not, no that’s not, what I’m looking for

Play Songs With Feeling

(Straight From The Heart)

My baby’s comin’ home tonight, to dinner and candlelight

Sure would be nice, to make the mood right

if you’d play a little music with lovers in mind

Please Mr. Radio Man, cooperate with my plan

When you see the moon, spin me some tunes

to make a heart remember the love it once knew

Play songs with feeling, where words have meaning

and the singer’s singing straight from the heart

Don’t play those sad songs, no love went wrong songs

play only love songs straight from the heart

My baby and I need time, to stare in each other’s eyes

With fam’ly to raise and bills to be paid

the only time we kiss is when we’re sayin’ goodnight

Can I count on you to make this night for two

one we won’t forget like the first time we met

we’ll remember it forever and we’ll owe it to you

Play songs with feeling, where words have meaning

and the singer’s singing straight from the heart

Don’t play those sad songs, no love went wrong songs

play only love songs straight from the heart

Don’t play those sad songs, no love went wrong songs

play only love songs straight from the heart

Truckin’ Daddy’s Prayer

Leavin home tomorrow, I’ve got a load to haul

I’ll see the Carolinas before I’m back in Arkansas

It’s hard to leave my fam’ly, but I’ll soon be miles away

Could you do me a favor Lord and hear these words I pray?

Put the kids to bed at night and kiss ‘em on the cheek

If they have a bad dream, please rock ‘em back to sleep

Tell ‘em not to be afraid of the others kids in school

Help ‘em with their homework, make sure they do their chores

Well I know You understand a father’s heart

Since You’re the One who’s had one from the start

Keep ‘em from harm, as they rest in Your arms of care

that’s this truckin’ daddy’s prayer

Tell my boy how you were proud, when he stole third base

Tell little sissy when she turned that flip how you were quite amazed

And when their mama’s gettin’ tired, would you take the time

To listen to the thoughts that are weighing on her mind

Well I know You understand a father’s heart

Since You’re the One who’s had one from the start

Keep ‘em from harm, as they rest in your arms of care

that’s this truckin’ daddy’s prayer

Do all the things that I would do if I was there

Please grant these humble wishes of this truckin’ daddy’s prayer

Amen

One Heart And One Mind

At first they said our love was going no where

They joked it would be over in the first year

But years have come and gone and still our love is strong

Now they want our secret to how we get along…

It’s not who’s cookin’ meals, it’s not who’s payin’ bills

Not even sexy thrills, of a romantic night

It’s not what I do for you, or what you do for me that keeps our love strong

Not a belly that’s flat, or a waist without fat, that keeps us turned on

If you haven’t a clue, we’ll tell you the truth

It’s not hard to find

To make love last, you’ve got to have

One heart and one mind!

It’s not the clothes you wear, or how you fix your hair

True love don’t even care ‘bout trivial things

It’s me knowing you and you knowing me, not in part but the whole

Our dreams and our goals, the visions we hold, spirit and soul

For a woman and man, to make their love stand

through the test of time

It takes more than grit, you’ve gotta commit to

One heart and one mind

Two hearts beating side by side, can conquer any mountain

And two minds seeing eye to eye, now that’s a cause for shoutin’!

So now you can see, the great mystery that makes our love shine

It’s nothing man made, just something God gave…

One heart and one mind!

It’s Amazing What Rhythm Can Do

Our band is playin’ on the corner of the street

The crowd is dancin’ to the beat

It’s amazing what rhythm can do

A little country, a little blues

A little gospel and a ballad or two

It’s amazing what rhythm can do

When you’re down and feeling low

let the music move your soul

It’s amazing what rhythm can do

All alone or in a crowd, play it soft or play it loud

Clappin’ hands or tappin’ toes, twistin’ and shoutin’ or doin’ the stroll

It’s amazing what rhythm can do

In a church or in a bar, it doesn’t matter where you are

It’s amazing what rhythm can do

Brings together those apart, joins ‘em right in the heart

It’s amazing what rhythm can do

When you’re down and feeling low

let the music move your soul

It’s amazing what rhythm can do

All alone or in a crowd, play it soft or play it loud

Clappin’ hands or tappin’ toes, twistin’ and shoutin’ or doin’ the stroll

It’s amazing what rhythm can do

It’s amazing what rhythm can do

My Heritage

As a person here upon the earth, a product of the past

to those who’ve gone before me I owe a great respect

Great, great grandpa was a pioneer, his mama had a dream

Freedom for all people was the vision she had seen

There were other names and faces whose stories go untold

but my soul holds ev’ry moment of the days of long ago

It’s my heritage and I wear it very proud

Even though I don’t often say it loud

In the cells of my body the memories remain

It’s my heritage flowing through my veins

As a spirit I have always been and always will I be

though right now I don’t remember all the things that I have seen

Sometimes I have visions of another time and place

And I get a little homesick when I’m gazing into space

I marvel at the wisdom of a Father’s master plan

for it’s written in the heart of ev’ry woman, child and man

It’s our heritage and we wear it very proud

Even though we don’t often say it loud

In the cells of our bodies the memory remains

It’s our heritage flowing through our veins

Many moons have come and gone, and many tears I’ve cried

but the heart of my ancestry is very much alive

I am part of them, they are part of me

We are all apart of so much more than our human eyes can see

Sometimes late at night, I turn the lights down low

and I feel them all around me I can hear them sing me songs

"We truly love you dearly child, we’re right here when you need.

Now go on, blaze that trail to freedom

it’s your heritage you see!"

It’s my heritage and I wear it very proud

Even though I don’t often say it loud

In the cells of my body the memories remain

It’s my heritage, it’s my heritage

It’s my heritage flowing through my veins

You Are My Source

You are my Source. I begin each new day in Your mercy

You set the course that I will fulfill in this day

You author the plan that will bring me into my full being

As I obey, Your grace goes before me

Your angels prepare me the way

And I praise Your Name

for Your nature’s unfolding within me

from glory to glory, stone upon living stone

And I praise Your Name

for the earth soon shall behold Your glory

arising in me, that all men might see

All glory, all honor, all power be given to Thee!
